Inca Kola and Friends of Lead Free Children Foundation announce Humanitarian Aid Mission to Dominican Republic.

NEW YORK.–  Friends of Lead Free Children Foundation with the Support of Continental Food and Beverage Inc./Inca Kola USA, announce their annual Humanitarian Aid Mission to the Dominican Republic from March 29th through April 2nd 2017.

The Director of Friends of Lead Free Children, Steve Null, stated the first stop will be with the Mayor of the Municipality Bajos de Haina. Mayor Rodriguez Estevez will receive Liz and Randy Berman, principles of Inca Kola along with the doctors and Mercy College Medical students that they are bringing with them. The meeting will be to discuss the needs of the local population, the types of exams that will be provided for Pregnant women and children along with prevention methods to minimize the exposure of lead to small children.

In 2000 with the Support of BancoInteramericano and local businesses like Continental Food and Beverage, Mr. Null initiated the Nutrition for Life Program that is still in place today 17 years later. The program brings nutritional supplements for pregnant women and small children that have a high risk of lead contamination from the environment.

These supplements are supplied free of charge by the Mission. This program has supplied more than 20 million pills thanks to the help of many people including the Berman’s and their company ViaQX.com. The supplements contain a mixture of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Vitamins A,B12,C and D. They also include Iron and Folic Acid all of which help to prevent the passage of Lead in pregnant women to their unborn babies as well as reduce lead levels in small children.

The mission begins Thursday March 30th at the community center in Haina from 10:30 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. where they will conduct prenatal exams on pregnant women free of charge. They will also provide pediatric exams for small children that are at risk and do not have access to regular health care.

Residents of the area will benefit from this important Humanitarian Aid Mission that targets the poorest and highest risk populations. We have been coming back to this area every year as it was the site of the worst lead contamination in the country due to the negligence of a local Business that has since closed.

On Friday the 31st the mission will visit the area of San Pedro de Macoris, where there are many sugar cane fields and workers that have no access to regular health care. There the mission will join up with doctors from the University Central del Este to distribute more supplements to pregnant women and children.

The mission will conclude on Saturday April 1st at the orphanage AldeasInfantiles SOS in the neighborhood of Los Minas. AldeasInfantiles SOS is a community based program that offers schooling, medical attention and small family units to develop the social and family values needed to succeed in life. They take in orphans, abandoned children and children with special needs and give them the love they need to grow into productive adults.
